About Us

FOMAS Programs

  • Pay It Forward – Pay It Forward covers the adoption fees for cats older than 6 months, large breed dogs weighing 40 lbs. or more, and senior shelter pets.

  • Long-Stay Champion VIP Adoption fees are covered by FOMAS for Long-Stay Champions (i.e., dogs that have been in the shelter 30 days or longer). Adopters also receive a free VIP package valued at approximately $250. The VIP package includes items such as: Vaccinations (3 years); Canine License (1 year); Heartworm preventative (6 months); a harness and large crate (upon request).

  • Waived Redemption Fees – When the shelter is full, FOMAS covers the cost of the redemption fees for owners who are reclaiming their pets. This allows owners to be reunited with their pets without the burden of additional costs.

  • Medical Voucher Program - FOMAS approved a $60,000 Medical Voucher Program for 2024/2025. The goal is to help individuals in the community who need extra support in getting their animals much-needed care.

Some of Our Projects

FOMAS raised almost $15,000 for new surgical packs, an incubator, and an autoclave for use by MAS.

FOMAS funded microchip clinics, across the community through MAS in 2024, that resulted in 238 pets receiving free microchips.

FOMAS purchased a much-needed pill counter for MAS, which saves valuable staff time and creates greater efficiency. When the shelter is overcrowded, there is never enough time in the day, but this new device allows the staff to focus more time on animal care rather than manually counting pills.

FOMAS covered the cost for five (5) MAS Animal Control Officers to receive supplemental training from the National Animal Care & Control Association. This particular training focuses on animal crime forensics and seeks to improve investigative skills so that Animal Control Officers can properly address animal cruelty cases while promoting humane treatment and care to people and their pets.

FOMAS provided funding to purchase a microchip scanner for each division of Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD). The scanners enable LMPD officers to return microchipped dogs to their owners, instead of bringing them to the shelter. Not only does this save time for the officers, it also helps reduce the number of dogs at Metro Animal Services.

FOMAS provided funds to install 3 canopies in the play yards at Animal House Adoption Center. Now the dogs have a cool place to play in the shade during hot weather and a dry place to play in the rain.
